Universal Broadens Through-Hole Component Spectrum

Universal Instruments has expanded the lead span capability of its class-leading Radial 8XT insertion machine by introducing the industry’s first 5.0/7.5/10.0mm triple-span radial machine. This large span capacity virtually eliminates tedious manual assembly requirements to improve product quality and provide greater returns for through-hole applications.

January 6, 2010 - With a 40-year history as the leading Through-Hole assembly equipment provider, Universal Instruments continues to leverage proven technologies and evolve its equipment portfolio to meet current industry demands. The latest advancement in the Generation 8 equipment lineup features 10mm tooling for the Radial 8XT. “With the ability to handle 10mm lead spans, the Radial 8XT improves PCB coverage by automating placement of those components that, until now, have required manual insertion. This significantly improves throughput and quality while reducing associated labor costs,” says Phil Szypko, Through-Hole Business Development Manager. “Our latest advancement will positively impact power supply, white goods, military, and aerospace electronics production, as well as any other applications comprised of 5.0, 7.5 and 10mm lead span components.” The additional capacity also provides manufacturers superior output per floor space.

The triple-span Radial 8XT is available in both stand-alone and pass-through configurations, and continues to deliver superior throughput and PPM levels. In addition, 15mm dispense head tooling is offered to reduce dispense time requirements.
